Granite Countertop Information

Granite is an igneous rock and is created from magma. Granitic magma has many potential origins but it must intrude other rocks. Polished granite is a popular choice for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities. Available in a striking array of colors and variations granite has become an ideal solution for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops and floors.

Granite countertops will have different levels of resistance toward staining and scratching. Properly sealed granite countertops help repel stains. Granite counterops do require re-sealing depending on sealant applied. Direct cutting on granite countertops will not affect the large majority of granites. Repeated cutting can eventually dull knives and cutting utensil, so the use of cutting boards are recommended. Burning

Hot pots and pans may be placed directly on granite countertops. When placing hot items on the granite counters, the stone will also absorb heat from the hot items, so be caution should be taken to not touch the hot surface.
